The FoxSDR System Architecture
Welcome to the FoxSDR build guide! This project is designed to be affordable and accessible. By following these steps, you will construct a fully standalone SDR transceiver from the ground up. Let's build something amazing.
Step 1: Gather Your Documentation
Before ordering parts, you need the blueprints.
-
Download Circuit Schematics (.PDF): (Click here)
-
Download PCB Gerber Files (.ZIP): ( Click here). This file is what they upload to PCB manufacturers like JLCPCB or PCBWay.
Step 2: Acquire the Hardware (The Bill of Materials - BOM)
-
Main Processor: ESP32-S3 Development Board (ESP32 S3 N16R8).
-
Display: LCD Touch Screen (3.2"ILI9341).
-
Audio Codec: WM8731 Chip.
-
Clock Generator: Si5351 Module.
-
RF Section Components: (List the specific Tayloe mixer mux, RF op-amps, and bandpass filter components).
-
User Interface: Rotary Encoders (1), push buttons(8), and the necessary potentiometers.
-
Connectors: Antenna connector (SMA or BNC), headphone jack, microphone jack, power jack. DOWNLOAD
Start Your FoxSDR Build (Early Access Phase)
Project Status: In Active Development
The FoxSDR project is currently in the beta development phase. While the core hardware architecture (ESP32-S3, Tayloe Mixer, WM8731 codec) and essential firmware are functional, detailed step-by-step assembly guides, comprehensive documentation, and a final Bill of Materials (BOM) are still being prepared and will be uploaded soon.
I am releasing the existing files now by popular demand for experienced homebrewers and developers who want a head start.
Important Disclaimer (Build at Your Own Risk)
This project is offered as-is for experimental purposes. Because it is still in development, it is intended for makers who are comfortable interpreting schematics, troubleshooting circuits, and debugging software. Any attempt to build, power on, or operate the FoxSDR is undertaken entirely at your own risk. VU3ZOF is not liable for any damage to equipment, components, or personal injury resulting from this build.
